Recently, there was  a running race  in June of 2025 in which over 2,000 participates ran along the Benito Juarez Blvd that Sunday morning.  The local news used the term "Sports Tourism" here in Roasrito due to the impact of the one running race. Sorry to say, but "Sports Tourism" has been going on for quite some time, despite what people perceive.

We all know of the tourism  season, June to August, and the local restaurants, clubs, bars and restaurants are full with tourists from here in Baja, Mexico, United States and other countries.  Some of us know of the numerous cuisine spots just from central Rosarito going south of Rosarito Beach Hotel. Steak, lobster, sushi, Italian, fish, beef, tacos & tamales, ceviche and cervezas, and new ones pop up every few months.

But what is "sports tourism"?  It is a different part of Rosarito  that most don't know.  There have been numerous running races here in Rosarito Beach and nearly every month, 2k to 5k to 10k to half marathon.  We all know of the big yearly Rosarito-Ensenada bike ride that has been going on for decades, and there have been  unknown bike rides at various times of the years.  You can see some of the cycling clubs training along the free road starting from Baja Studios and going south towards La Mision and beyond.

Boxing?  There has been boxing here nearly every month for many, many years. Those boxers come here from Rosarito, like El Perro, Gloria Gallardo and Diego Aleman.  In addition, you can see boxers flying from Mexico City, Vera Cruz and other parts of Mexico.   And from United States? For sure!  A lot of them come here to Tijuana and Rosarito to fight.  And at times boxers come from Europe to train here and fight back home.

Any surfers here?  Well, every year in September, there is a massive, 2-day surfing tournament with the top surfers from Mexico and United States.  K-38 is a place for surfers and well known.

There are rodeos  here during the season and that is one experience you must try!

Is there basketball here?   There  are several clubs and teams over the years. There are several U-18 competitions coming from Rosarito and the state.  One of the big basketball tournaments will be held in August, Beach Fest Basketball Rosarito Beach.  Around 60 teams coming from all around Baja and the ages go from U10 and go on up. Great chance to see the basketball scene.  And there are always games going around at the basketball courts.

There is volleyball, tennis, paddle ball and pickleball.

There is so much more to Rosarito than  you realize!
